Email notification won't turn off
Well, basically the title says it all. The forum keeps sending me an email that someone has replied to a subscribed thread, even though I have the email notification option disabled in my control panel.
Just to make sure, I set it to "Yes", submitted it, and then set it to "No" and submitted it again, just in case this magic voodoo ritual would do anything.

vBulletin knows that while on the surface you are rejecting the emails, in your heart you really desire a relationship with the thread.
Pretty amazing, isn't it?
cheers,
Michael

It's very persistent. As others have said, you have to unsubscribe from all threads after turning off the e-mail notification. A wooden stake and some holy water would be advisable, also, on one system it took me two days to get it to quit sending them out.

I believe it is extremely critical that you perform some of these rituals on your birthday, so plan ahead.Originally posted by Loren Pechtel

So... if I subscribe to a thread, it automatically sends me emails even if I turn off the email notification in the control panel?
Yes. The email notification option in your control panel does not turn email notification on and off. What it does is say whether or not you want the check box for email notification checked by default whenever you reply to a topic.
So now that you have unchecked the the Email notification by Default" box, you can still use email notification but you have to consciously subscribe to a topic either by checking the box when your reply to it or by clicking the "Subscribe to this topic" link at the bottom of a topic.
