roomate log-on problem

Post by Deleted » Fri Jan 26, 2001 6:22 am

Bill, I finaly got my roomate to post something on the site. We only have one computer here, mine. He tried to get regestered but he didn't get his password sent to his e-mail address. Is there a problem with two people using one computer? He said that because this site recognizes my computer when I log on, he probably can't use my computer to, is that right?

No, this is not right.

I do most of the technical support for the UBB system and I frequently log onto my computer as somebody else when I do that sort of thing.

Yes, the UBB system uses "cookies" as part of how it works. But only if you have "autocomplete" set to on in your web browser will you automatically get a user name and password suggested by the web form. All you need to do is to select the user name and type the new user name and the other person's password should be suggested (if everything is working; I'm using Internet Explorer 5.5 and it works this way for me).

If it bothers you to leave your user name and password available for your roommate to use, then when you are done with the forum, select the "preferences" link in the upper right corner of most of the forum web pages and click on the link that says "Click here to delete all cookies set by this forum!" Try this once to get your friend signed up properly.

As for not getting the e-mail back with the password, that can happen if the e-mail address was typed in wrong, or if there was just some "glitch" in the message system. If it was a "glitch," then just click on the "profile" link in the upper right corner of most forum pages and then click on the link that says "Forget your password?" and a new e-mail will be sent to your e-mail address.

If that doesn't work, then please send an e-mail message to infidel@infidels.org with the user name and e-mail address used for registration purposes and I will try to figure out how to fix it.
